Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected on study.tylue.com, a website created for the Public Perceptions of Artificial Intelligence Chatbot Study.

This study is conducted by Tyler Lue as part of an undergraduate dissertation project at Manchester Metropolitan University, under the supervision of my appointed supervisor.

Who is responsible for your information?

For the purposes of the research data collected through this study, Manchester Metropolitan University was the data controller. Tyler Lue was the student researcher conducting the study as part of an undergraduate dissertation project.

What information is collected?

If you choose to take part in this study, the website may collect the information you provide through the chatbot, including your answers to study questions and broad background information such as your area of work or study.

The website also records a submission timestamp and generates a non-identifying response ID for each completed response.

This study is designed not to request direct personal identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, home address, or employer name as part of the chatbot responses.

Cookies and session data

This website uses a temporary essential session cookie to help manage consent and participation in the study. This cookie is used only to help determine whether a visitor has completed the consent step and may proceed to the chatbot.

This website does not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or profiling cookies.

Technical website data

Like most websites, limited technical information may be processed automatically by the hosting environment in order to deliver the website securely and reliably. This may include basic request metadata, browser or device information, and routine server-level logs.

Tyler Lue does not intentionally collect or use IP addresses or server logs for research analysis. However, technical logs may be generated automatically by the hosting provider as part of normal website operation.

How is your information used?

The information collected through this website is used only for the purposes of this research project. This includes administering the consent step, recording study responses, analysing patterns and themes in public perceptions of artificial intelligence, and producing academic outputs connected to the dissertation project.

Participants will not be identified individually in the dissertation or related academic materials. If short written responses are quoted, they will be quoted anonymously.

Legal basis for processing

Manchester Metropolitan University processes research data for this study on the basis that the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest.

If you choose to take part, your consent to participate in the study is collected through the website before the chatbot begins. You may stop taking part at any time before submitting your responses. Once responses have been submitted, it may not be possible to identify and remove an individual response if it cannot be linked back to you.

How is your information stored?

Responses are stored in a database on the study server and may later be transferred to university-approved storage for analysis, assessment, and retention.

The study is designed so that response data is anonymous or non-identifying. Appropriate steps will be taken to reduce the risk of unauthorised access, misuse, loss, or disclosure.

Who may have access to your information?

Your study response data will not be shared with other participants or with external organisations for marketing or commercial purposes.

Access to research data will be limited to the student researcher, the dissertation supervisor, and Manchester Metropolitan University where necessary for academic review, assessment, research governance, or legal and regulatory purposes.

The website is hosted by Namecheap, which may process limited technical data as part of providing web hosting services.

Will your information be transferred outside the UK?

The research data collected for this study is not intended to be transferred outside the UK.

How long will your information be kept?

Relevant research data and associated study documentation may be retained in accordance with Manchester Metropolitan University requirements for up to 10 years after the end of the project (if you took part whilst the study was live).

Temporary or unnecessary material that does not need to be retained will be securely deleted when no longer required.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have rights in relation to personal data, including the right to be informed, the right of access, and, in some circumstances, the right to object.

Because this study is intended to collect anonymous or non-identifying responses, it may not be possible to identify a particular response after submission in order to retrieve, amend, or delete it.
